My name is Julia (Jules) Dorsey. I completed my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Rochester. I have remained at the U of R and am pursuing my PhD.
I have years of experience working with adolescences and teens at Mount Hope Family Center. At the Center, I worked closely with kids, helping them navigate through trauma, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. I continue to lead a group for parents which is focused on emotion coaching for kids with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). I have experience working in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (Psych ED), as well as with individuals at Strong Recovery (chemical dependency). From there, I went on to work at a community mental health center where I met with clients individually and ran both Bi-Polar and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy groups. Outside of private practice, I also work with the crisis call line and the Monroe Mobile Crisis teams.
If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, mood, trauma, or sexual orientation, and you are ready to make a change in your life, I would be glad to hear from you. As a therapist, I work hard to create a safe, non-judgmental place for people to honestly examine their problems and develop the skills and behaviors that help them move forward with their lives. My approach is one of respect and warmth, and attention to the dignity of every person. Many of my clients have gone through traumatic or disorienting experiences, and struggle with depression, anxiety, or other debilitating emotional problems.
Too often, we feel alone; and that our voices are not heard. I am here to guide you on your journey. You are not alone.
